Dali Lama's Instructions for life

I was in San Francisco over the week-end and in one of the shops I came
across this and found it interesting and profound so thought I would share
Instructions for Life
2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson
.
3. Follow the three R’s:
Respect for self-Respect for others and Responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly
.
6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
14. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the earth.
16. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.
17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

New

This is my new bed( sorry about the
photo) about a month ago
my husband and I decided that after 25 years we need a change and I have always wanted a dark cherry wood sleigh bed so we went out one day and ended up buying a new sleigh bed, two night stands, and a dresser and mirror and a new dining table ( but that is another blog!)

what did we do with the old furniture
well we kept a few pieces but the rest we donated to the high school drama
club.( note: I am going to get one more piece a matching T.V. Case!)
I was feeling kind of sad in away because we had that old bed room set for 25 years but as my husband has stated to me, that was the first 25 years, this new furniture is for the next 25 years ( I kind of wonder if every 25 years we are together will I always get new furniture?! ) he did make one thing clear that this furniture was not my anniversary gift ! ( I am glad of that!)
so now I am in the process of finding just the right bed spread and accessories I want
can't be to girlish and not to manly has to be the perfect fit for both of us. this is going to be interesting since he is helping me with it!
I will let you know in a future blog what we end up with.

Golden Barrel

This was once a small little golden barrel cactus that we gave to my husbands parents when they retired and moved into the desert that was many years ago. when we were there for the Thanksgiving holiday I took a look at them ( we gave them two) and I could not believe how fast and how big they grew. my Mother in Law says that they bloom such pretty flower.
as I said in a previous blog when we visit my family in the desert it is a place of solitude for me, one of my joys there is to walk the property and enjoy looking at all the beauty of the desert nature. and of course my mom has planted beautiful roses that seem to thrive well. there are many places in nature that I enjoy and certain things that always seem to take my breath away when I am in that environment. I enjoy these places of nature. The Mountains because
I always feel the air I breathe up there is cool, clean, my favorite Mtn place is Yosemite National
park for many reasons because I lived and worked and met my husband there, then I of course like the ocean. to stand and listen to the roar of the waves the sound of the wind to me it is a different sound than the wind of the desert. but they both make a beautiful noise. I guess it depends what my soul aches for but when I need the fill of these places I always seem to come back with a peaceful feeling that sustains me till the next time.
